Sule Pagoda is situated in the center of downtown Yangon.
According to the legend, the site was the home of a powerful spirit, the Sule Nat. He had the power to know the location where the sacred hair relic of the Buddha was buried : he revealed the site, and that’s how they build the Shwedagon Pagoda. According to this story, the Sule Pagoda is older than Shwedagon, and was build around 2500 years ago.
The Sule Pagoda has always been an important place for the social and political life of Yangon.
